A man has been charged after a Silver Service taxi was allegedly stolen and left with ‘significant damage’ in a bizarre incident.
The 42-year-old man approached the parked taxi on Hunter Street in Sydney’s CBD last week before damaging the vehicle, police said.
The well-dressed stranger then threatened the 54-year-old driver of the taxi before taking off in his taxi, police said.

The man was charged with taking and driving transport without the owner’s permission, driving recklessly or furiously or speed and manner dangerous – 1st offense, and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol (photo, taxis in the CBD)
The taxi was subsequently dumped in Woollahra and suffered ‘significant damage’.
Images of the handsome stranger, wearing a dark blue suit and white collared shirt, were circulated through police’s social media channels this week.
The Bronte man went to Waverley Police Station at 10 p.m. Thursday before being charged.
He was charged with taking and driving transportation without the owner’s permission, reckless or furious driving or speed and manner of dangerous 1st offense, and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Downing Center local court on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
