The historic Powerball winner wastes no time playing big.
While details about the jackpot winner remain scant, real estate records show that he has opulent taste.
A California man identified as Edwin Castro, who came forward last month to claim the $2 billion prize, has invested a small part of his fortune in palatial digs in the Hollywood Hills.
Sales records, cited by the Los Angeles Times, show that Castro spent $25.5 million on a five-story modern-style mansion that features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and amenities such as a gym, movie theater, wine cellar, and game room.
But the purchase of the 13,578-square-foot property also has bragging rights. dirt reports that his closest neighbors include late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, actress Dakota Johnson, and pop superstar Ariana Grande.
Castro did not show up for a Feb. 14 news conference in Sacramento to announce his winning ticket, which matched all five winning numbers and the Powerball number. He bought the ticket at a Los Angeles-area gas station in November.
California Lottery officials have not released Castro’s age, occupation or address, saying he wanted to remain private.
He did, however, make a brief statement, saying: “I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball raffle.”
Castro’s purchase of the newly built house puts a small dent in his overall earnings, which amount to less than 3% of his gross earnings.
Lotto officials said Castro opted to receive the balloon payout option of $997.6 million from the $2.04 billion jackpot, which set a world record in November after 41 consecutive draws without a winner.
