Lisa Mott (pictured), aged 12, was last seen crossing the railway line onto Forrest Street, at Collie, south west WA, at around 6.45pm on October 30, 1980.

In a small Australian town answers can be found about what happened to a teenager who mysteriously disappeared on her way to play basketball with her friends four decades ago.

Lisa Mott, 12, was heading to the local sports fields on Throssel Street in Collie, southwest Washington, around 6:45 p.m. on October 30, 1980.

About two hours later, Lisa visited a pizzeria before starting to walk home around 9 pm and was last seen crossing a railway track onto Forrest Street. She never returned home.

WA Police Cold Case Investigation Team Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Dowding described the incident as “any parent’s worst nightmare”.

Sergeant Dowding said police are asking the community for more information in a bid to find out what happened.

“We want to find that explanation and we believe it is possible with the help of the community,” he said.

“Any little piece of information may be all we need to move this investigation forward and find answers for Lisa’s family.”

Detectives from the Cold Case Investigation Team have been tasked with solving the mystery.

Officers have been stationed at a mobile police facility at the PCYC center, 105 Forrest Street, in Collie, since Wednesday.

They believe someone in town knows something that could provide answers to Lisa’s family.

Lisa was last seen wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark blue terry shorts with white trim around the legs.

He also wore a pair of brown and beige striped sneakers with white socks.

NSW Police also released a new episode of their Cold Case podcast about Lisa’s disappearance.
