A mother was left furious after her three-year-old son was banned from eating the food

A mother was left furious after her three-year-old son was banned from eating the “unhealthy” food she had prepared for him at school, leaving the child “confused” and “hungry” all day.

The young German mother prepared a meal consisting of cut apple slices, freeze-dried banana chips, sunflower seeds and a croissant.

“Today my son was not allowed to eat breakfast at kindergarten because it was deemed too unhealthy,” she said in a Reddit post.

“He’s a very picky eater and was very excited about his breakfast. I was definitely furious with the teacher. My poor boy was very confused and hungry when I picked him up.”

The school offered no alternative and simply let the boy starve.

The mother shared that her son was “healthy” and “active” and that she was in regular communication with his pediatrician about his diet.

“(Her teachers) told her she couldn’t eat something so unhealthy in kindergarten and that she could eat (the croissant) at home,” the mother explained.

“It’s all very beige and looks unappetizing, but I still think it’s a relatively balanced meal for a toddler. Plus, it’s just breakfast – he has all day to eat a lot more.”

She often has difficulty getting food for her son because he only enjoys “limited options” and the child is also not allowed to drink his fruit bag during snack time.

“Basically, all I packed was crap,” the mother wrote. “He had water and some apple.”

The boy ate his entire lunch box after picking it up because he was “confused” about why he had been denied it earlier.

The school asks all parents to prepare a “healthy” breakfast for their children, but does not provide a list of “forbidden” foods.

Hundreds of people were outraged by the school’s “unacceptable” behaviour, with many demanding the teacher be reprimanded.

“As someone who works with children, I would rather let one of them go hungry than let them go hungry, especially since an adult took their food away without replacing it because of a subjective judgment about how healthy it is. And a kindergartener is a baby, how can you let a baby go hungry and feel good about it?” one man said.

“I could have let him eat it and if it was really a problem I could have said something later. It’s an issue between the parents and the teacher, not the teacher and the child,” said another.

“Is the teacher a nutritionist? Beyond making sure the child has edible food, I’m not sure it’s the teacher’s job to deny the child a meal,” one added.
