I change my underwear and stockings every day, but my partner doesn’t unless he’s taken a shower – who’s the “weirdo” here?
A woman has sparked controversy over her bathing and washing habits after falling out with how often her partner changes his underwear and stockings.
Sharing her dilemma redditThe British woman said that while she wears clean underwear and socks every morning, her partner does not change his underwear unless he takes a shower.
Hundreds of commenters chimed in to share their personal hygiene habits—but most agreed that factors like job, daily activity, and body type are all important factors to consider.
Many also shared that they shower every day – so there was no dichotomy for them.
“I change my underwear and stockings every morning, regardless of whether I’ve showered or not,” she explained.
“(He) thinks I’m weird because I change them every day – who’s a weirdo here?”

However, even when this was not the case, most agreed that underwear and stockings should be changed within 24 hours.
One person wrote, “As a woman, there are so many things that go wrong with not changing your underwear daily. “Aren’t men prone to ‘leakage’ and pre-**m spots?”
The second agreed to “knickers and stockings every day.” “A bra every 2-3 days.”
Others had more nuanced opinions, explaining that it depended on that person’s daily life and the country in which they live.
“In the UK I shower mostly every day,” one commenter revealed.
If I go to the gym, I’ll shower that day too, but not always my hair because I don’t need to wash it every day.
Whenever I go to India to visit relatives, I tend to shower twice a day, once in the morning after sweating the night away, and then once before bed to calm me down before bed to give me respite from a sweaty day.
People then went on to point out that bodies are different – some people sweat more than others – explaining that it all depends on the context.

Hundreds turned out to share their personal hygiene habits, but most agreed that factors such as job, daily activity, and physical differences are all important factors to consider.
Elsewhere, users have expressed concern about British “nervous hygiene” which involves wasting water.
I’m not advocating a return to Elizabethan standards of a one-bath-a-year, someone noted, but the obsessive cleanliness, dare I say, shown in this subject is deeply frustrating especially when viewed through the realist lens of global warming.
Perhaps part of the problem is a strange British aversion to toilets or they all work in the coal mines in perpetual heatwaves.
Another agreed, “Shockingly wasted water on this thread.”

Do you shower several times a day? Shower in the morning and shower at night? How much BO do you guys have normally? like wtf?
It’s normal to shower anywhere between once a day and twice a week depending on where you live (the climate, but since we’re UK ask, none of us live in the tropics) and your activity level.
If you were a construction worker who went to the gym every night, you would obviously shower more.
If you are an office worker in air conditioning all day and have quiet evening activities, I doubt you really need to shower daily.
Edited to add – I shower every other day unless it’s particularly hot / I’ve worked a day that doesn’t take a shower. I wash my hair twice a week because it’s long like a f**k and it’s a hassle to dry. I change my underwear every day.
