A woman has shared the devastating moment she discovered her boyfriend was having an affair with her own mother.
Brooke, now 26, was 17 when she started dating her first boyfriend, whom she called M for the purposes of the story.
The California-based woman shared her story in the We are all crazy podcast.
She explained that M, who was 18, was her brother’s teammate and ended up spending a lot of time at the family home.
‘He was always in our house, very close to our family. “You know, it made me so happy to be able to have a boyfriend who not only had a great relationship (with me), but who had a great relationship with my brother and got along well with my parents,” she admitted. “It felt so good.”
Looking back on their relationship, Brooke said she had naively ignored some of the red flags that arose.
“My mom immediately became very attached to us,” he continued. “She would be very supportive, I wanted to go do things with him and hang out and stuff like that and sometimes she would even offer to come and take us.”
Brooke said she began to worry when her mother started buying clothes similar to what she wore and made a concentrated effort to look and act younger.

“She really went into her image at that time, she was trying to look younger,” Brooke described.
“She was highlighting her hair to be bright blonde like mine and acting and presenting herself as if she looked younger.”
Brooke noted that her mother began seeking validation from her boyfriend as she worked toward a more youthful appearance.
“She almost acted while she was with us like she was one of us, like she was a partner,” Brooke explained.
‘This is part of the relationship I had with my mother growing up: (she) was never really a mother emotionally, she wanted to be my friend, she wanted to be on my level, she wanted to relate to me.’
He also recalled how his mother would go places like “to the store” or “for a run” and come back in a “completely different mood.”
Brooke said she even once went to her mother for sexual advice, which she gave her in detail.
She added that her mother was asking her what she and M were doing, noting that while it seems strange now, she didn’t realize it at the time.

“I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable telling my mom, ‘Hey, this happened,’ you know, because she was curious and invested in our relationship, so it was like telling your girlfriend the details,” she said.
Brooke explained that when she began to notice that her mother was acting suspiciously, it coincided with her parents going through a rough patch in their marriage.
And just a few days after Christmas, during his senior year of high school, things fell apart and the matter was exposed.
‘I come home and I’m in the garage and my brother opens the door (and) He just stares at me and says, “M had sex.” with mom,” she shared, admitting that it didn’t hit her when she initially heard the news.
“I said, ‘You’re kidding,’ and I looked at him and said, ‘Don’t say that,’ and he looked at me again and his expression didn’t change; it was just stone cold. and he says exactly the same thing.’
At that point, Brooke said her heart was pounding and her brother told her to call her dad.
“I’m in a state of total shock,” he admitted. ‘I’m so confused there’s no way it just doesn’t make sense to me.’
Brooke called her father, who confirmed that what her brother said was true: her mother had been sleeping with her boyfriend.

“I walked into that house and ran straight to my parents’ room, where my mother was lying on the bed in the fetal position, sobbing absolutely hysterically,” he recalled what happened next.
‘I ran there (and) Every bad word came out of my mouth. throwing his hands, he was cursing her, he was yelling at her.’
“I felt so destroyed and so betrayed and so confused and every emotion you can imagine,” Brooke admitted, adding that all of her feelings were amplified by the fact that her “own flesh and blood” was the one that had to be compromised. . act.
“I remember being so sad for my dad who had to be in a position to take care of not only his own needs but also mine.”
Brooke forced her mother to tell her about the affair and she revealed where they had had sex, including a local park, in the car and, mostly, in her own home.
Brooke’s mother even admitted that they had kissed while she was in the room recovering from having her wisdom teeth removed.
‘She admitted touching and kissing him behind (me) while she was on the couch. “I mean, literally, like a couple meters behind me and I have no idea any of this was going on,” he shared.
“He would leave my room to say good night… and when he left he would meet her in a place in my house and he would see her.”
Brooke still had six months of high school left, so she said she went into “survival mode,” actively trying to avoid her mother.
“I remember going back to school and I didn’t think it was going to be something that everyone knew,” he recalled painfully.
“But everyone knew (everyone’s) business and the stories spread like wildfire.”
Brooke added that the affair not only affected her, but also her siblings, who were teased at school for it.
‘My mom saw a therapist after this happened and she says her therapist told her that she was basically having a dissociative episode and that she didn’t understand that what she was doing…wasn’t right, which I call complete nonsense** “It’s on,” he admitted.
Brooke said the experience caused her to act out in college, partying and drinking a lot, and eventually she started sleeping with people.
‘My whole existence depended on feeling wanted and feeling good, and I never looked in the mirror and said, I need help. “I need to address the pain that this situation has caused,” he said.
After spending some time in therapy, Brooke said she has made great strides in accepting the feelings of inadequacy she ignored after the incident.
Brooke’s parents are still married, and in fact, she said their relationship has never been better.
‘A couple of years after the fact (I asked dad), “Why did you decide to stay with mom?” and he said that when he got married he made a vow, you know, for better or for worse, all those things that I think we don’t take so seriously nowadays,’ he shared.
“I really admired my dad when he said that, and he said, ‘I love your Mom, I know she really screwed up, but I love your mom and I’m going to do everything I can to stay committed to her.”
Brooke said she has put her relationship with her mother on the back burner for now, but overcoming her trauma has helped her become more vulnerable in many areas of her life.
“I don’t think I’ll ever truly lose the scars that she and that situation left on me, but I’ve learned to make peace with a lot of things, I’ve learned to accept a lot of things and find peace.” positive aspects in them,’ he shared.
