A mum-to-be was left scratching her head after her husband insisted on an “awkward” baby name and she refuses to change her mind.

The 36-year-old revealed the couple were overjoyed to discover the sex of their baby, but things became tense when they tried to discuss potential names.

‘When we started talking about names, we immediately decided on the ‘boy’s name’: Stuart Jr., after my husband. No problem, it’s a classic name and has a family meaning. But, for one girl, things got murky,” the mother wrote on Reddit.

‘My husband suggested Stuarta. No, you are not having a stroke. Apparently his logic is that since Stuart ends in ‘t’, we can just add an ‘a’ to make it feminine.

The mother immediately hated the name, stating that it sounded like a furniture brand instead of a baby name, and that her daughter would have to “correct people endlessly.”

“But he’s inflexible,” she explained. ‘My husband says he ‘honors’ him and gives our daughter a unique name.

‘I’ve suggested alternatives: female names that share a similar sound or meaning to Stuart, names he’s mentioned liking in the past, even going completely back to the drawing board. But he is obsessed with Stuarta.

Although the mother loves her husband and wants to honor her family, he would never think of giving her baby a name as “ugly” as Stuarta.

‘I can’t imagine subjecting our daughter to a lifetime of awkward stares and endless questions about her ‘unusual’ name. “She also worries about possible harassment and the impact it could have on her self-esteem,” she stated.

Am I the idiot for refusing to give in when it comes to Stuarta? Are there any commitments you haven’t considered? she asked.

Many were upset that the father was so insistent on naming the child after him, especially since the baby would likely also have his last name.

“Why are you so selfish as to demand that a daughter be named after you?” one asked.

‘He can choose the name when he takes the baby out. Why is only HIM and not you honored? another wrote.

Some also shared their problems with the name chosen by the father.

“Stuarta looks like something you need ointment for,” one man said.

‘Stuarta is the kind of name that automatically corrects itself back to Stuart. It’s also the kind of name that people will laugh at as soon as you say it,” another noted.
