An ex-bride has revealed how her fiancé dumped her just three weeks before their wedding after spending £30,000 on the big day.

Jessica Buchanan, 33, a makeup artist and content creator from Toronto, Canada, met her partner in 2010 at a college party when they were both 19.

In March 2022, Buchanan’s boyfriend proposed to her in what she described as a “big proposal” that she compared to a movie scene.

While Jessica threw herself into planning every aspect of the wedding, choosing the venue from a converted greenhouse which required a £4000 deposit, her husband-to-be didn’t seem to share her enthusiasm.

An ex-girlfriend has revealed how her fiancé dumped her just three weeks before their wedding after spending £30,000 on the big day.

She began to notice things were going wrong when she and her partner started arguing as the wedding approached, something they had never done before.

After celebrating her bachelorette party on April 1, 2023, she admitted to feeling “a growing sense of dread” as her wedding day approached.

Speaking to SunJessica said: ‘A couple of days later, I had a bad feeling all morning and was still trying to calm my nerves when Adam walked in. The moment I saw his face, I knew.

“But when I heard him say he couldn’t get married, I felt lost. I felt a surge of anger and humiliation. As I screamed, Adam just stood there, looking devastated.

“He couldn’t give me any specific reasons. He was just telling me how bad he felt and how much he hated that he had done that. We knew our relationship was over.

“He went to live with his father and I stayed at home, surrounded by wedding things. I couldn’t stop crying. We had wasted around £16,000, but my family were so supportive; they only cared about my happiness.”

Jessica added that while she didn’t want to see her ex, she did recognize the need to let guests know that her wedding would not be taking place since, at this point, it was only three weeks away.

She said they sent guests a message saying: ‘The wedding has been cancelled, please respect our privacy.’

While many would have been shocked and saddened by such sudden news, others even thought the message was a belated April Fool’s joke.

Unable to spend her wedding day at home, Jessica made the impromptu decision to go to a Taylor Swift concert in Texas, more than 1,300 miles away and at a cost of £1,700 ($2,180) per ticket.

Instead of walking down the aisle with her husband as planned on April 21, 2023, Jessica attended Swift’s concert at NRG Stadium in Houston, while her wedding was out of sight and hidden in her closet.

Jessica said participating in such an experience has helped her let go of her anger over the past 16 months.

She is now dating someone new and added that their planned marriage “would never have worked out” but that the exes are courteous to each other on the occasions they have seen each other since their split.

She added: “I don’t know if I will ever get married, but I have learned how important it is to be honest with the person you love. No relationship can survive without that.”
