Young Woman Furious When Dress Her Dry Cleaner 'Lost' Ended Up For Sale Online (Mock Ad)

A young woman was devastated when her dry cleaners ‘lost’ her expensive silk dress – but her disappointment soon turned to fury when she saw an identical dress for sale online.

The anonymous Australian woman said she bought the dress several years ago and had only worn it three times before sending it to a professional to have it cleaned.

‘The dry cleaners “lost” my beautiful silk dress. “I have now seen that same dress, (which was) discontinued in 2018, for sale on eBay,” she wrote on Facebook.

‘(The seller is) in my city, the same size, with a pre-owned price in excellent condition. Coincidence?’

The woman claimed she tried to contact the seller, but he immediately deleted and reposted the ad using another account.

She thought it might be a mistake, but online reviews of the dry cleaner revealed something sinister.

“I checked Google reviews and I’m not the only customer this has happened to,” he said. “I’m thinking about reporting it stolen.”

She first tried to message the seller in case she made a mistake, but the seller’s suspicious behavior left her with a bitter taste in her mouth.

What are your rights as a consumer regarding dry cleaners?

When you hire a company to provide a service such as dry cleaning, you have the right to expect “acceptable quality.” The services must be:

– provided with due care or skill (taking all necessary measures to avoid loss and damage)

– suitable for any specific purpose (express or implied)

– provided in a reasonable time (when no time has been set)

What is “reasonable” will depend on the nature of the service, the difficulty of the task and other relevant factors such as busy periods and holidays, etc.

You have the right to appropriate remedy from the company when the product or service you purchased fails to meet one or more of the consumer guarantees.

This could be a refund, an additional service to rectify the problem and, in some cases, a refund for consequential damages and losses.

‘I contacted the seller, who immediately told me he had no receipt. I just asked him where he was from originally and if he could send more photos. Then that list was removed,” he said.

“Now I’ve seen it listed again and she’s not responding to my friend who messaged her asking where she bought it and if there were any imperfections,” he added.

Many were upset by the behavior of the dry cleaners.

“They wouldn’t have removed the ad or blocked you if it was a genuine owner selling it,” one said.

Some also suggested going to the police or harassing the dry cleaner to get a replacement or full refund.
