A woman revealed that her date asked her to return the coffee he bought her on a date after she told him she wasn’t interested in him.
Emily, 29, was asked to wire $6 to the man after their only date.
The British expat, who lives in Sydney, shared screenshots of their text exchange in a TikTok posted on Monday.
“I thought I’d be decent and send him a message so he wouldn’t ignore it,” he said in the video.
In her message, Emily explained that she just “didn’t feel any spark,” before quickly receiving a response from her date, who agreed.
“I agree, we are very different. I wish you the best. PS: Your coffee cost $6,” she wrote.
The man provided his PayID details so Emily could refund him the money, but she refused to do so because he was being “rude.”
Instead, she told him she’d never heard of anyone asking for a refund for a date, prompting another sharp response from the man.
Emily, 29, had an unsuccessful date with a man she met on the beach, after which she tried to let him down gently but he ended up asking for a refund.
The two met on a beach and at first Emily thought the man was worth a chance, but after their date ended, “he just wasn’t in the mood.”
“So I sent him a message (which was) very nice, just letting him know that we’re probably better off as friends,” she recalled.
Her message read: “Thanks so much for organising the picnic, shame about the weather. It was nice meeting you but I didn’t feel like there was a spark there but I’ll probably see you around. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.”
After that, the two started arguing and when the man asked for his refund, Emily sent him another text.
“I’ve never heard of anyone asking a girl out and then asking for their money back. Good luck finding someone,” he wrote.
He replied, “I had no intention of pursuing this further, but I would still appreciate it if you could cover your part.”
“Keeping such a small amount does not give a good name.”
The video racked up tens of thousands of views but has since been removed by TikTok, Emily said Tuesday.
