A young woman has been left feeling duped by her neighbor after noticing his security cameras pointing directly at her younger sister’s bedroom.
The protective older sibling texted the once friendly neighbor to ask about the camera – but was met with a series of nasty messages and legal threats.
Finally, he ended the chat by dismissing her completely with the phrase ‘Now go away little girl’.
She explained that her 26-year-old sister could see the camera from her bed, which made her feel like the neighbor could see her sleeping, getting changed and simply hanging out in what she prefers to be a private space.
As seen in excerpts of the texts on Reddit, the chat begins with the young woman messaging her elderly male neighbor in a friendly tone.
A young woman has been left feeling very cheated by her neighbor after noticing his security cameras pointing directly at her younger sister’s bedroom
He told her that he knows the law best
She questions the need for the camera and asks him to take it down; his answer seemed open and casual.
“When I get back, I’m going to show you that the camera has absolutely no view of the house whatsoever,” he said.
But not wanting to wait to fix the problem, she asked for screenshots right away when the man had mentioned that his cameras were streaming to an app on his phone.
That’s when the conversation turned ugly – with the neighbor saying he hopes the camera issue isn’t the start of a ‘bad relationship’.
He also took issue with the younger woman ‘playing too loud music’ to try and lure her away from the camera conversation.
When this didn’t work, he tried to state the local (Florida) laws, which said he could use a camera unless it could directly look into a room where there was an expectation of privacy.
And then told her she had the potential to ruin their relationship
This included a place where people could undress, the inside of a home or a bathroom.
When the woman pointed out that the camera could see the entire yard and into her sister’s bedroom, violating her privacy, the messages from the unnamed man intensified.
“Read the law very carefully, I have studied it thoroughly and consulted with legal counsel over the years. I am 100 percent clear.’
He then mentioned that he hadn’t received a text apologizing for the noise and he wouldn’t move his camera an inch.
He also said he had been a good neighbor to her mother for years and that she should ‘try to inherit the privilege he bestowed upon her rather than destroy it’.
The young woman repeated her request to have the camera removed and questioned why he is ‘dead set on recording someone in the privacy of their own home’ before ending the conversation.
He advised her to hire someone with legal training to continue the chat on her behalf before telling her to go away.
In the Reddit thread, the young woman elaborated on her sister’s problems with the neighbors, claiming that his creepy behavior didn’t start with the cameras.
‘Since my mother passed away, he has increased the complaints and harassing texts to my sister. Texting her about the weather, asking her if he could walk her very large mastiff, inviting her to use his hot tub, and asking if she could drop off packages at his house every day,’ she said.
She chatted with the housing authority responsible for the estate and they mentioned that other people had complained about his cameras in the past.
Hundreds of people commented on the post, warning the sisters to be careful.
Many branded the man a creepy narcissist or said it looked like he had a ‘God complex’.
“Now go away little girl” I can only imagine how he talks to the women in his life…,” one woman said.
“Just a heads up, this perv has multiple cameras around that you haven’t noticed yet,” said another.
She laughed at his last message
“Ok the fact that he invites your sister over to use the hot tub?” If there was any doubt before he definitely looks at her in her bedroom. Trying to threaten you with lawyers; F**K the narcissistic pervert,” added another.
Others offered advice on how to ‘fix’ the problem.
‘Get an infrared flood light and point it at the camera – it will fry it.’
‘Get a cheap laser and aim it at the lens. Not only will it block the camera view in many cases, but it will fry it.’
“Definitely call the police,” warned another.
While some told the young women to just close the blinds and avoid the backyard.
The woman added that another camera looks into the backyard and living areas, but she “just left it.”
‘It’s only the bedroom that I asked him to remove as she feels she has to cover her own windows to avoid him now.’
