My bone snapped while I was in an arm wrestle competition with a stranger – a year on it’s still not fully recovered

A woman’s arm was broken after getting into a tug-of-war with a complete stranger – and a year later, she still hasn’t fully recovered.

Daisy Johnson, 24, from London, was celebrating Easter with her friends when she decided to take on a man in an intense arm wrestling competition.

The 24-year-old suffered a spiral fracture of her humerus, a bone in the upper arm connected to the shoulder, and experienced extreme pain for the next few days.

She said: “There was a conversation about the gym and my ears perked up. This led to friendly competition after I declared that I could, ironically, “crush anyone in an arm wrestle.” My arm looked like Harry Potter’s flexible arm!

“The pain started to build as the adrenaline wore off. The humerus then had to be reshaped, which was extremely painful! »

Daisy Johnson, 24, from London, broke her arm in a tug-of-war with a complete stranger – and a year later she’s still not fully recovered

Daisy was celebrating Easter Sunday with her friends at the local pub when a complete stranger from a nearby table came over and chatted with the group – and once the gym was mentioned, she decided to get involved.

One thing led to another, and Daisy then challenged the stranger to an arm wrestle, confident that she would beat him, and the two began their battle on the table.

Surprisingly, Daisy’s arm broke mid-struggle, with an unmistakable cracking sound, and she was quickly taken to hospital.

She spent four days there, after putting her broken arm back together and recovering with the help of painkillers.

The fitness fanatic usually spends most of her time at the gym, but with her broken arm that wouldn’t be possible, and she spent the next few months trying to regain her strength.

At first, she mainly focused on other areas of the gym, while her arm was in a sling, and once ready, she started trying to get her arm back into a sling.

However, after a year, she still feels like her arm isn’t fully recovered and even says it’s “slightly deformed” and “shorter” than her other arm – but she’s still determined to get back on the right track.

She said: “At the time I thought I had just dislocated my elbow joint and was convinced that once someone put it back on me I could go back to the pub!

Surprisingly, Daisy’s arm broke mid-struggle, with an unmistakable cracking sound, and she was quickly taken to hospital.

“Everyone thought I was joking because I was convinced I had done something and needed to go to the hospital, until, upon realizing that my arm looked visually deformed, everything the world quickly realized that I wasn’t joking.

“I had to hold him to my chest otherwise he would literally swing loosely.” I spent about four days in the hospital on a ton of morphine.

“It was frustrating. As a girl who spends most of her time strength training at the gym, it was mentally difficult for me to have to completely change my workout.

“However, no fitness journey will ever be without challenge and once I accepted that and viewed my injury as a challenge, I was able to make the most progress.”

“I ditched the harness about three months after surgery, but it took me months to get to the point where I could put my weight on the injured arm.”

“After a year of recovery, the arm still hasn’t fully returned to what it was and I’m not sure whether or not it will regain its original mobility, strength and range of motion.

“Visually, the injured arm is slightly deformed and therefore shorter than the healthy arm. However, I want to continue to get stronger every day.
