  • Images have surfaced of football director Marcel Brands arguing with a fan
  • A supporter also ran full-time onto the pitch to confront Toffees players

Everton’s season turned into chaos on Wednesday night as supporters argued with the football director and a fan took to the pitch to protest against players after their defeat in the Merseyside derby.

Rafa Benitez’s side were homeless in the Premier League in seven games before their clash with Liverpool at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, with the mood music around their season already shifting after a promising start.

However, a heavy 4-1 defeat – their sixth in seven appearances – finally caused tensions among supporters to boil as they vented their frustrations on the players and the board.

The football director responded to criticism

Everton’s football director Marcel Brands was engaged in a heated argument with one fan

A video circulating on social media shows a fan directing his anger at football director Marcel Brands after full-time.

You heard the supporter ask the Dutchman if he had recruited the players on the field and ask ‘What do you think of that?’ and ‘Did you recruit them?’ before labeling the gig as ‘absolutely shitty’ and the 59-year-old saying: ‘Leave our club’.

Brands responded to the man by asking, “Do you think it’s just the players?”

A Twitter user, who claimed to be the supporter in the video, suggested that Brand’s response questioned Benitez’s performance as head coach.

“Now I’m calmed down, definitely calmed down, that’s definitely a dig at the manager and everything up there,” the user wrote @cok99999. This club is rotten from head to toe. He’s a yes man.’

There were also scenes of altercation on the pitch, with one fan dodging security full-time to confront the players.

The person approached Anthony Gordon and Abdoulaye Doucoure and was allowed to protest against them, as security left the person to complete his conversation.

Angry reverberated full-time through a half-empty Goodison Park, with many fans leaving long before the referee blew for the end of the game.

Fans had expressed concerns during the match, with anger directed at Chairman Bill Kenwright and a banner unfurled in Gwaldys Street reading ‘We Demand Nil Satis Nisi Optimum [nothing but the best is good enough]”It’s time for our club to do the same.”

The home fans also heard chants like ‘fire the board’ as they witnessed their four goals scored at home for the second time this season.
