Musician Boy Jeriko Faced with Police for Saving Echidna in Elanora

Bizarre moment cop orders musician to ‘lie on the floor’ and ‘do as I say’ – after the good samaritan rescues a captive echidna

  • A man and his friend tried to save an echidna from a construction site
  • A police officer approached the men and told them to ‘go on the ground’
  • The officer offered little explanation and did not listen to the rescuers
  • None of the men were arrested or charged with anything

A musician has captured the moment when an aggressive police officer ordered him to “lie down on the damn floor” after rescuing an echidna trapped on a construction site.

Gold Coast musician ‘Boy Jeriko’ and his friend were moving the endangered animal from a location in Elanora, south of Brisbane, when they were approached by the officer.

“Stop there, get down on the floor,” the officer says bluntly in images shared on TikTok.

As the couple tries to protest and explain the situation, the officer interrupts them: “Lie down, on the damn floor, until I get this sorted.”

“People report that you are in their garden. Do as I tell you, until I say stop.’

TikTok user @boyjeriko shared a video of an echidna rescue (pictured) that was interrupted by a police officer who accused the men of trespassing

The pair continue to try to reason with the officer, but he refuses to budge until two construction workers arrive.

“So who saw what?” the officer asks the men.

“They say they’re going to rescue an animal. If they’ve done something wrong, they should tell me what they’ve done.”

‘I did move the fence, because it was buried under the concrete block of the fence,’ the musician replies.

The pair are eventually told to get up when the officer realizes the pair’s “cutting cables” was wrong.

The clip was viewed more than 500,000 times and people were quick to laud the officer for his heavy-handed approach to the situation.

“That’s why no one helps anymore,” one wrote.

“Too afraid to be falsely accused.”

“The police officer entered into this meeting with an outcome in mind rather than assessing the situation and then moving on,” wrote another.

“Very bad police work.”

“In Australia you are guilty until you prove you are innocent,” wrote a third.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the officer was responding to reports of theft and trespassing.

“You get into a situation where you don’t know either man or what they’re doing — they could be armed,” they said.

“The officer determined what was going on in the safest way possible.

“It’s either (Tell them to lie on the floor) or cuff them.”

Queensland Police have confirmed that the men have not been arrested or charged over the incident.
