Backpackers accused of threatening a group of women and children by jumping on their houseboat and exposing themselves in a terrifying river rampage
A group of women enjoying a relaxing weekend together were left terrified after a boat full of tourists crashed into their houseboat and they rushed aboard.
NSW Police confirmed they were investigating the incident, which allegedly occurred on the Murray River near Moama on the Victorian border on Saturday.
Police allege the women were on the boat when a group of 15 men approached them and asked if they could board their moored houseboat.
The women refused and footage later surfaced showing them yelling at the men to leave them alone.
Several hours later, the group of men returned and allegedly crashed into the houseboat.
A group of men then jumped, uninvited, onto the houseboat, allegedly threatening the women and wreaking havoc.
The men remaining on the pontoon allegedly exposed themselves to the women and threw glass bottles into the boat.
It is alleged that the pontoon was driven against the houseboat multiple times before the men left the area.
The women reported the incident to the police, saying they were still reeling from the ordeal.
‘A few hours later we heard a big bang. We were on the top floor and we looked down, and they had actually come aboard the boat,” one told 3AW on Monday.
“We asked them to get off, they started urinating on our stuff, they were banging on the windows trying to get in… it lasted about half an hour.
‘They kept coming back, they hit the boat, there were death threats.
“It was absolutely terrifying, we all feared for our safety.”
NSW Police confirmed Tuesday morning that the incident is under investigation.
