A mother who murdered her two young children 30 years ago has been having phone sex with sugar daddies as she prepares to be released from prison.
Susan Smith, 52, drowned her sons Michael, three, and Alex, 14, in a South Carolina lake in 1994.
She was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years and has a hearing scheduled for Nov. 4.
In preparation for his possible release, Smith has been making obscene phone calls to men, including one who promised him a $40,000-a-year allowance. The New York Post reports.
She is reportedly convinced she will be released, telling one suitor: “It’s time for me to go. I’ve done my time. I’m ready to go.”
Murderous mother Susan Smith (pictured undated) who murdered her two young sons 30 years ago has been having phone sex with sugar daddies as she prepares to be released from jail.
The murderous mother was just 22 years old when she locked her two children in a car and let it plunge into John D. Long Lake in Union County.
She initially told police that a black man had stolen her car, sparking a massive manhunt in which she and her husband David publicly pleaded for their children’s safe return.
However, it quickly emerged that Smith had been having an affair with a man who apparently did not want children and she eventually admitted to her heinous crime.
Their affairs continued even behind bars, and Smith turned to them for financial advice after his release, prison phone records show.
A man who called told her he had a large sum waiting for her, made up of the sale of family property, money he had saved, and gifts from admirers.
“I’ll tell you what I did last night, with you in mind,” he told Smith. “I made a spreadsheet that starts at $213,000. You’re going to have more than that. I think you’ll be in the $220,000 range, all together.
‘You can spend $40,000 a year. As you withdraw money from that balance, you continue to earn interest on the unused amount.
‘In 20 years you will have spent most of it, but you will still have some left over.’
Smith has been serving a life sentence at Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood, South Carolina, for the double murder of her sons: Michael, 3, and Alexander, 14 months (pictured).
She was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years and has a hearing scheduled for Nov. 4.
The exchange led to Smith telling him she loved him “a lot” before the two made kissing noises and the conversation turned sexual.
He’s not alone, though: Smith has made similar calls to at least 12 men over the past three years.
She previously told a fan that she would “make a good stepmother” and might find herself surrounded by children after her release.
“She’s thinking about her future,” a family member told The Post. “She’s looking at who she can trust and who will be able to help her.”
His time in prison has not been easy, with the last 30 years marred by drug violations and self-mutilation, as well as two incidents in which she was caught having sex with guards.
Smith was disciplined twice in 2010 and once in 2015 after being caught with marijuana and narcotics.
She was initially incarcerated at Columbia, but had to be transferred to Leath following multiple sexual scandals.
In 2000, at age 28, she was disciplined for having sex four times with prison guard Houston Cagle, 50, who was later jailed for three months over the affair.
David Smith, the children’s grieving father (pictured), is heartbroken as he receives support from friends and family following the funeral of his two young sons.
Smith is led from the Union County Courthouse after the first day of testimony in the sentencing phase of her trial. Smith was convicted of murdering her children on Oct. 25, 1994.
Smith confessed to the sexual encounter with Cagle after testing positive for an STD.
The following year it emerged that prison captain Alfred Rowe had had sexual relations with her and he was sentenced to five years probation and fired from his job.
Former cellmate Stephanie Hulsey said Smith also had a girlfriend, in addition to his male lovers.
Smith insists she is “not the monster society thinks I am” and revealed to reporters in 2015 that she had been planning to kill herself, not her children, on the night of the tragedy.
“I had planned to kill myself first and leave a note telling what had happened,” Smith said. “I didn’t think I would be able to face my family when the truth was revealed.”
She also refuted claims that she had hurt her children to be with a man, calling them “far from the truth”, and said she was not in her right mind at the time of the murders.
In 2012, he attempted suicide at age 40 after smuggling a razor blade and Smith has a long history of depression prior to the murders.
Her stepfather, Beverly Russell, admitted during the initial trial that he had sexually abused Smith when she was a teenager and had consensual sex with her when she was an adult.
Law enforcement officers dressed in scuba gear are seen searching the waters of John D. Long Lake after Susan Smith drowned her two young sons on Oct. 25, 1994.
Mourners visit a shrine erected near the lake where Michael, 3, and Alexander, 14 months, were killed. The children were strapped into their car seats as the vehicle plunged and sank in the water.
He partially mortgaged his house to pay for Smith’s defense at trial and said the blame was not all his.
Smith is unlikely to be granted parole on her first attempt, especially since her ex-husband has expressed strong opposition.
David Smith, who has since remarried and fathered two more children, plans to argue against his release when the time comes.
Smith has expressed his intention to appear at the hearing.
