Murderer Alex Murdaugh faces new indictments for tax evasion

Date:

Killer Alex Murdaugh faces new indictments for tax evasion as he serves a life sentence for the murders of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul.

  • Alex Murdaugh has been charged with tax evasion, the latest of at least 99 financial crime charges he faces over 19 indictments.
  • Murdo was previously indicted for failing to declare $7 million in income between 2011 and 2019.
  • He was sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife, Maggie, and child, Paul

Killer Alex Murdaugh was indicted on Monday for tax evasion, the latest in a string of financial crimes he faces after he was sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife and son.

Murdaugh, 54, faces at least 99 financial offenses in 19 different indictments stemming from the millions he allegedly stole from his law firm and clients to fuel his opioid addiction.

The disgraced legal descendant has previously been charged with tax evasion of more than $7 million ‘obtained through illegal acts’ that he failed to disclose between 2011 and 2019.

The latest indictment is believed to relate to financial crimes committed by Mordo between 2020 and 2021, he said. Fits the news. The charges have not been announced.

Murdo was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in March for the murder of his family members in 2021. He is currently living in an isolation unit to protect him from other inmates.

In the coming months, Murdau is expected to stand trial for his numerous financial crimes.

Sources tell FitsNews that the latest indictments were based on “the two years we’ve been waiting for more information about,” which indicates financial crimes covered in recent years.

Questions still loom over how the authorities will handle the myriad crimes he’s accused of committing – many of which he confessed under oath during his double murder trial.

When he took a stand on the double murder case, he admitted: ‘What I can tell you is that in all these financial situations I’ve stolen money that wasn’t mine, I’ve misled people I shouldn’t have misled, and I’ve been wrong. I can tell you that.’

He told the court he stole up to $10 million from clients in an effort to fund his opioid addiction that saw him take more than 60 oxycodone pills a day.

He reportedly evaded paying less than half a million dollars in taxes as well as stealing settlement money from seriously ill, frail, and bereaved clients and families — including a quadriplegic client who was conned out of a million dollars.

He now faces up to 700 years in prison if found guilty on all fronts, according to calculations by legal magazine Law & Crime.

Money laundering in an amount exceeding $100,000 — with which Mordo has been charged on at least 11 occasions — carries a 20-year prison sentence.

He is also accused of two counts of money laundering, the lesser of which carries a penalty of up to five years.

In addition, he is charged with at least 20 different financial crimes, each of which could carry up to 10 years in prison. The maximum cumulative penalties for these allegations are more than 200 years.

The remaining charges carry a maximum sentence of 310 years, as alleged by law and crime. In all, Mordo could be convicted of up to 740 years in a South Carolina correctional facility.

Other scandals discussed at trial include a 2019 boating accident involving his late son Paul that killed 19-year-old Mallory Beach.

Paul was facing criminal charges after he was accused of driving the boat while intoxicated before he was shot and killed. The girl’s family sued the Murdoch family for $30 million at the time of Paul and Maggie’s murder.

Also raised during the case was the death of his housekeeper Gloria Satterfield – who the Murdaugh family claimed tripped on dogs and fell down stairs while working at the hunting lodge. Her son Tony called to testify on the stand about a $4 million wrongful death payment allegedly stolen by Murdaugh.

Murdaugh also faces separate charges in connection with a failed suicide attempt in September 2021 intended to give his only surviving son, Buster, a $12 million insurance payment.
