Detectives have gathered at a park near Elementary Road in mambourinwest of Melbourne.

The man’s body remains under a picnic table inside the park, a few meters from Laa Yulta primary school.

Police were forced to arrest a man, believed to be a relative of the deceased, after he ran across the crime scene towards the body, the Herald of the sun reported.

“Let me see him,” he shouted before officers took him away and spoke to him.

A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed Homicide Squad detectives were investigating the incident.

“The body was located in a park near Elementary Road at around 7.30am on January 21 and has not yet been formally identified,” the spokesperson said.

“The exact circumstances surrounding his death have yet to be determined.”

A man, believed to be known to the victim, is currently in custody assisting police with investigations.

“The investigation is ongoing and police are keen to speak to anyone in the area who may have CCTV or dashcam footage,” the spokesperson said.

A woman told the Herald Sun that a street fight had broken out in the park three days ago, just meters from the crime scene.

“It’s very scary, it’s very scary, we don’t feel safe walking around now,” she told the publication.

‘We saw some young people, they were chasing a child.

“We don’t feel like going for a walk anymore, it’s very scary.”
