An American expat was “blown away” after walking through an Australian shopping center for the first time.
The young Californian has gained more than 17,400 followers on TikTok by sharing her experiences under the username. @beefystuu.
The 26-year-old “felt like I was in Dubai” as she browsed the stores at Karrinyup Mall in Perth this week and couldn’t believe the selection of shops, restaurants, pharmacies and retailers discount.
She was amazed by the “fancy” bathrooms, the butcher and the way customers can take a trolley between the different stores.
“The shopping centers in Western Australia, or maybe just Australia as a whole, are much better than the ones back home,” she said in a video.
The 26-year-old was amazed while walking around Karrinyup Mall in Perth and couldn’t believe her eyes as American malls only have clothing and shoe stores with fast food restaurants.

“It’s a shopping center and they have a produce market!” America never can,” she said.
“Another thing that’s mind-blowing to me is that people put everything in a cart from a store rather than walking around the mall and always (taking) the cart. This is not something you see in the United States.

“Honestly, if you just add a few apartments to this mall, you’ll probably never have to move out of this building to live — it’s so crazy.”
Speaking about American shopping malls, she said: “Some are really nice, but you won’t see grocery stores or a plethora of specialty stores. Just a lot of designer boutiques and that’s it. Others are just plain ghetto and embarrassing.
“The shopping centers in Western Australia, or maybe just Australia as a whole, are much better than the ones back home,” she said in a video.
The young solo traveler also told FEMAIL that she instantly fell in love with Australia soon after landing.
“This whole experience has really humbled me. I love the vegetation and wildlife you have and how everyone looks out for each other. I’m learning a lot,” she said.
She almost cried after seeing children taking public transportation with their friends or alone, highlighting the country’s security.
“It blew my mind, but it shows me how safe you are compared to the United States. (In America) you don’t really see kids going out alone like that anymore and if they do, you just worry about their safety and wonder where their parents are because it’s really not safe there,” she said.
And the expat prefers Australian food and produce and the fact that restaurants don’t charge for tap water.
“Australia is extremely multicultural and diverse and it is truly a happy place,” she added.
“The only thing I don’t like is that everything closes at 5 p.m..”

The video also made many people wonder what American shopping malls look like.
“Wait…there are no grocery stores and pharmacies in the malls there?!” This is WILD for me. Definitely a thing all over Australia,” one person commented.

And the expat replied: “Yes, and cosmetics and shoes mostly. Cafeterias are normally just fast food chains.
Another person added: “Sister, when you go home you really need to post what shopping is like there.” I couldn’t imagine not having a butcher or fruit market.
