A distraught mother revealed her Christmas was ruined when her husband let her children unwrap all the presents while she was still asleep, leaving her heartbroken and furious.
The mother explained that she woke up around 8:30 on Christmas morning to the sound of her children, ages five and seven, running around.
Expecting to join them in opening presents, she was devastated to find the living room already filled with wrapping paper and children playing happily with their new toys.
“I immediately started crying and went back to the bedroom,” she wrote on Reddit.
‘My sadness turned into anger and I started screaming like crazy. I was so, so angry.’
The woman, who has difficulty sleeping due to various health problems, said her husband usually lets her sleep every morning while he takes care of the children.
However, on Christmas morning, she became furious that he hadn’t made an exception.
‘He knows what time to wake me up if I fall asleep. I yelled at him, asking him why he couldn’t make the kids wait or at least come wake me up.
A distraught mother revealed her Christmas was ruined when her husband let her children unwrap all the presents while she was still sleeping.
‘My husband just said, ‘I never wake you up in the morning.’ I yelled, ‘It’s Christmas morning! Didn’t you think I’d want to see the children unwrap their presents?’ he said.
The mother said her husband apologized but made no attempt to justify his actions.
Despite his attempt to make it up to her by showing her a video of the children opening their presents, she admitted that she was too upset to be comforted.
“I spent a lot of time picking out their gifts, sorting them or driving around to find them and wrapping everything,” she added.
“I feel completely deprived of the joy of seeing their faces light up; it’s one of the best parts of Christmas.”
But her frustration wasn’t just with her husband.
She described feeling disappointed about the whole day, saying, “Now I don’t even feel like doing anything Christmassy.” I’m very hurt and I don’t know how to get over it.’
The mother clarified that she went to her room to cry and was not yelling in front of her children, although she admitted to yelling at her husband and calling him an “asshole” during their heated exchange.

One shared: ‘My dad worked nights my whole life and my parents HATED each other. My mom would never have let us open presents without him there.
“It’s so much worse because she did the work of shopping and wrapping and was completely left out. What a (horrible) thing to do to your wife.
One mother wrote: “I have four teenage children and now that they are older they want to make sure they take the time to show their appreciation and spend time on the little traditions that are special to me.”
‘I always do most of the shopping and all the packing. My husband is wonderful but he doesn’t think about things the same way I do.
‘My daughter asked him what he had bought her for my stockings this year because I always make all the stockings, including hers. He hadn’t thought about it but after the reminder it filled him up.
‘I almost cried when I saw it this morning because I haven’t had tights since I was a little girl! Creating magic is exhausting, but seeing everyone’s faces is what makes it worth it.”
‘Children have no self-control, but as an adult your husband should have set limits. This is his fault,” said another commenter.

—You ruined Christmas Day with your petulant childish behavior. You need to communicate with your husband. He doesn’t read minds. You know he never wakes you up. If you wanted me to wake you up, tell him beforehand,’ one woman wrote.
He even recorded it on video so you wouldn’t miss the moment. “Leave it alone, I was trying to be considerate,” added another.
“It’s very easy for me to set five alarms around 6 a.m. if it’s that important,” said one parent.
“Be an adult and don’t depend on someone else to wake you up like a kid going to school,” one suggested.
