Former NRL star Alex McKinnon posted a photo of himself and a new mystery woman on social media, after his ex-wife Teigan Power went public with her new love in December.

McKinnon and Power separated in January 2022 after five years of marriage and three children together, but their separation was not made public until three months later.

When they separated, both parties confirmed that the separation was amicable and that they remained committed to co-parenting their children, twins Audrey and Violet, and eldest daughter Harriet.

Power went public with her new love, Jake Nelson, late last year, almost two years after the marriage ended.

On Sunday, just hours before the NRL season opener began, McKinnon posted a series of photos on Instagram, including one of him and a mystery brunette.

The former soccer star captioned the post simply with a cake emoji.

Last year, McKinnon said he and Power were still bound by a strong, close friendship.

“We are still very close,” he told News Corp.

‘Being a father is a very important job and having a strong relationship with your mother is equally important.

“We are still good friends, we both realize that we are role models for children and we have to show them that supporting each other is the only way to be.”

McKinnon proposed to his high school sweetheart from his hospital bed just days after his promising NRL career was cut short in March 2014, when he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury aged just 22.

He suffered fractures to his C4 and C5 vertebrae after a dangerous tackle near half-time of a Round 3 clash against the Melbourne Storm and was left a quadriplegic.

McKinnon and Power tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley in October 2017. The former Knights star promised his girlfriend he would get out of his wheelchair when he popped the question, and that was what he did at his wedding.

The couple had three children: Harriet, four years old, and twins Audrey and Violet, two years old.

The couple welcomed Harriet into the world a day before their first wedding anniversary the following year and were soon followed by Audrey Jill and Violet John, who will turn two this week.

And McKinnon said that while being a father was difficult in his conditions, his daughters made his job much easier.

“Being parents while healthy is difficult, we all have to adapt,” he said.

‘But the girls are great. Even at their age, they are very loving, very aware and very tolerant.’

Now in his third year of his psychology degree, McKinnon seeks to mentor those who have suffered similar injuries or their families.
