A mother lets a teenager sleep in her daughter’s bed, performs sexual acts on her and supplies her with cannabis.

According to police, the 26-year-old man from northern Queensland committed offenses against the 14-year-old boy and another 13-year-old girl over a five-and-a-half month period.

The man, now 27 and a father-of-two, pleaded guilty to 29 charges involving two minors and one count of assaulting a police officer in the Supreme Court in Cairns on Tuesday.

He has spent the last 15 months behind bars following his arrest in November 2022.

Prosecutor Clayton Willis told the court that the man committed crimes against two girls aged 13 and 14, the Cairns Mail reported.

The charges against the man involved 13 separate incidents which included indecent images shared via mobile phones.

Other charges included grooming, creating child exploitation material, grooming a child or parent to engage a child in a sexual act and supplying dangerous drugs to minors.

He was also accused of assaulting a police officer.

Willis told the court the man continued calling a girl after being accused of sexual harassment.

“He demonstrated defiance, a lack of appreciation of the serious consequences he faced,” he said.

The man’s lawyer, Kylie Mythen, told the court her client had several medical conditions, including ADHD, despite there being no evidence to indicate a diagnosis.

He added that his client had also completed an opioid addiction course, but admitted there was no evidence he was addicted to opioids.

“He has two children with whom he has no contact, which repeats the generational trauma of not having a father figure. He recognizes that he needs to do better.”

The man had previously committed several property-related crimes which Mythen said he used to fund his drug addiction.

He also told the court that the 13-year-old girl had consented and voluntarily participated in the drug offenses committed by the man.

Mythen then argued that the man did not give drugs to the 14-year-old girl in an effort to perform sexual acts.

“She was communicative and otherwise very supportive of the defendant,” he told the court.

Judge Helen Bowskill rejected his argument that the girls participated voluntarily.

“They are not in a position to make a free and informed decision about what they do with their bodies, and our society says you are an adult, and the adults in our community have to be responsible enough to make better decisions,” she said. .

Judge Bowskill sentenced the man to three years in prison for carnal knowledge and two years for grooming, to be served cumulatively.

He will be eligible for parole in July 2024.
