Recent allegations that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice assaulted a photographer at a Dallas-area nightclub have prompted some scrutiny into his past.
Rice has been in the news lately for multiple alleged criminal actions, including that assault and a racing incident that left multiple cars wrecked on a Dallas highway.
But a new report from NBC Sports’ Mike Florio reveals that the alleged prior criminal behavior was not publicly disclosed, however, NFL teams were aware of it before Rice was drafted.
According to NBC sources, several teams learned in the pre-draft process of an alleged incident while Rice was at SMU. The receiver believed his girlfriend was dating SMU basketball player Kendric Davis.
Their sources said, “Rice (or someone with him), based on specific information gathered by at least one team, fired multiple bullets into the empty car belonging to Kendric Davis.”
Several NFL teams learned of an alleged violent incident involving Rashee Rice before he was drafted, according to a shocking new report from NBC Sports.
While in college at SMU, Rice (L) allegedly shot at Kendric Davis’ (R) empty car.
In March, Rice was charged with eight felonies stemming from a street racing incident.
Those same sources “expressed their belief” that all NFL teams, including the Chiefs, were aware of the incident before the draft.
If it’s to be believed, that apparently didn’t deter Kansas City from taking Rice in the second round with the 55th overall pick.
SMU never informed authorities of the earlier incident and a school spokesperson had no comment when asked by NBC.
Rice faces eight felony charges stemming from that street racing incident in March.
The Chiefs receiver is also being sued for $10 million from the victims of that accident.
He could also face punishment from the NFL under the Personal Conduct Policy.
Rice led all Chiefs wide receivers in catch yards with 79 catches and 938 yards, trailing only Travis Kelce for first among all pass catchers.
