One dead and two injured in Stop & Shop shooting in New York as police hunt for masked gunman who ‘fled the scene on a public bus’

One person is dead and two others injured after a masked gunman opened fire at a New York Stop & Shop supermarket this morning.

The shooting broke out just before 11:30 am at the grocery store in Long Island’s West Hempstead neighborhood.

The police are still on the hunt for the gunman who was all dressed in black and wearing a mask.

Sources told NBC that the shooter would have fled by hopping on a nearby bus.

Police the killed person was a 49-year-old Stop & Shop employee.

The shooting took place in a manager’s office, which is located above the shop floor.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said there were about “a few hundred” people in the store at the time of the shooting.

Outside the store, dozens of ambulances and police vehicles remain on site.

Officers patrolled the parking lot with long guns.

Police are urging local residents to stay indoors while the shooter is at large.

The West Hempstead School District was immediately closed after the shooting.
