On the other side of the world, Steph Curry found a unique way to inspire the next generation of basketball.
Recently in New York City, Warriors Hall of Famer Chris Mullin revealed a fascinating tidbit about Curry’s commitment to turning around his terrible start in the NBA. Paris 2024 Olympic Gamesgave a talk at a youth basketball camp on the value of work ethic.
“The first four games of the Olympics were not typical Steph Curry,” Mullin told a group of camp attendees. “He shot 5-of-20 from three-point range, averaging seven points per game.
“In the last two games, he made 17 three-pointers and scored 60 points.”

Curry’s early struggles in Paris, such as his three-point performance against South Sudan, were notable.
After starting his Olympic career with four dismal performances, Curry managed to deliver Legendary consecutive performances which would ultimately lead Team USA to a gold medal.
But it was what Curry did between the semifinal games and the final that Mullin made sure to highlight in his lesson to the youngsters in attendance.
“I say this because I had a friend who went to his practices,” Mullin added.
“The last two games, shootarounds were optional, meaning you didn’t have to go if you didn’t want to. A few people showed up, one of them being Steph Curry.”
At a time when he couldn’t find his groove, Curry, with only a few people watching, relied on his unmatched work ethic to get back on track.
It worked.
“My friend texted me: ‘I’m at shootaround and there are three people here. Two are shooting free throws; Steph is doing a full hour-and-15-minute workout,’” Mullin concluded.
“That was before the game against Serbia, where he scored nine three-pointers. And then he did the same between the game against France.”
Mullin, a true admirer of Curry’s craft, is also confident that the story behind the chef’s remarkable turnaround at the Olympics will engender a similar work ethic in the game’s youth for decades to come.
