Food sales at Marks & Spencer are growing twice as fast as at Aldi.

In another sign that the middle-class favorite has regained its mojo, sales over the past 12 weeks were 11.9 percent higher than a year earlier.

By contrast, sales increased by 6 percent at Aldi and 10.4 percent at Lidl. Only Ocado – another Middle England staple – experienced faster growth than M&S, with sales up 12.2 per cent.

The figures, from market research group NIQ, underline the magnitude of change at M&S ​​under chairman Archie Norman and chief executive Stuart Machin.
