A British woman has been killed and an Italian man seriously injured after Kanta’s motorbike collided with another car in a Portuguese coastal town.
An accident alert was issued on National Road (EN) 109 in Quintã, in the municipality of Vagos, at 9.08 pm on Monday.
Police and ambulance teams responded to the call.
The tragedy occurred a day after a British cyclist died in a hit-and-run accident in Spain.
The 69-year-old died of injuries sustained after his bike crashed on a road in the municipality of Torre, near Almeria, in the southeast of the country.
The accident was alerted to National Route (EN) 109 in Quinta at 21:08 on Monday.
Quintã, in the municipality of Vagos, is located on the coast, about 90 km south of Porto
The accident occurred around 10:30 am near a local fire station.
Efforts to save his life at the scene were unsuccessful.
A 66-year-old man said to live locally was arrested shortly after the accident and appeared in court yesterday on suspicion of manslaughter and failing to stop at the scene.
He was released on bail pending an ongoing investigation.
