The only notable release from Moto this year was the Moto Razr 5G smartphone, but aside from the popular design and foldable screen, the phone didn’t have much to look for. Aside from the Razr, we have the flagship specs Moto Edge Plus, but not much after that.
Interestingly, after a whirlwind of announcements surrounding the smartphones rocking the Snapdragon 880 chipset right after the chipset was unveiled, Motorola Mobility president Sergio Buniac shared a cryptic message. He said the company is looking for “a platform with more powerful experiences in gaming, artificial intelligence and camera technologies.”
He added, “Next year, we will be introducing Qualcomm’s 800 series mobile platform to the moto g family.” While he said the new device is expected to be released sometime next year, he stuck around using the latest processor on this phone with no strings attached and decided to let this fact remain a mystery.
The said device could be Moto G Nio first pictured thanks to a popular one Evan Bass. This freshly leaked image suggests that the phone may come with a dual selfie camera and a large flat screen with a virtually borderless design.
Incidentally, a similar smartphone with a dual selfie camera in the video talking about the upcoming features that Motorola plans to bring with the new platform, which will allow the smartphone to be used as a game console, TV interface, and Samsung DeX-like desktop interface. The phone may come with a DisplayPort Alternate Mode, an extension of USB Type-C to support video output to external displays. These new features are expected to come with the Android 11 update on Moto devices.
Aside from the tension around the processor powering the Moto G Nio, the upcoming phone is expected to feature at least 8GB of RAM along with 256B of storage. We may also see a variant with a higher memory and storage combination, 5000 mAh battery and the phone is expected to run on Android 11 out of the box.
