A mum has told how she ‘kidnapped’ her four-month-old daughter to teach her husband a lesson after finding out he was sleeping all day when he was supposed to watch her.
The 29 year old shared it shocking story on Reddit’s ‘Am I the asshole’ forum this week, saying she learned of her neglect from a worried neighbor who heard her baby girl crying for hours every day.
The working mother explained in her post that her 35-year-old husband “reluctantly agreed to stay home” with their daughter because “childcare is too expensive”.
“It is important to know that he has been unemployed since 2021. He receives benefits,” she wrote. “It is also important to know that he is extremely lazy. He does not cook, clean or help in any way.

She was certainly worried about leaving the child with her father, but she felt like she had no other choice. Initially, she thought the arrangement worked well.
“When I came back from work she was clean and sleeping,” she noted. “The next few times I came home he was playing with her, feeding her, or walking with her. I was happy.’
However, that all changed when a neighbor told her that her baby “cried for hours” after she left for work in the morning.
When the neighbor finally knocked on their door, she discovered the baby’s father was sleeping through his daughter’s moans.
The mother has come to the conclusion that her husband is “sleeping all day” and “pretending to take care of” their daughter before she comes home.
To catch him in the act, she secretly took the day off and left the house at her usual time to trick him into thinking she was heading to work. She waited 30 minutes before coming back.
‘Of course he was knocked out [asleep] with his stupid noise canceling headphones,” she said. “I went to my daughter’s room, picked her up and took her to my friend’s house.”
The mother recalled that she had waited two hours before finally calling her husband to tell him that she was “coming home early”.
“He called me back saying he couldn’t find the baby. He told me he was going to call the police, but before he did, I told him what I had done,” she wrote. “He called me an asshole. ass and many other words too.
“When I got home his mum was there to ‘calm his nerves’ because he’s having a panic attack. She also called me an asshole.
She added that her husband slept at his mother’s house that night and was told by family members that she was a “terrible person” for what she had done.
“I know it was extreme, but I don’t know if I would consider myself an a**hole,” she concluded.
The majority of Reddit users who commented on the post sided with the mother, saying her husband’s neglect is child abuse and she should get a divorce.
“Someone could have kidnapped your child. Or she could have gotten sick or [choked] or need a diaper change. He is neglecting your child,” one person wrote.
‘Sleeping with noise canceling headphones as the only adult at home looking after a 4 month old?! Absolutely NTA,” someone else added.
“Unemployed and doesn’t even want to take care of his own child? This guy is a leech, you deserve better,” another insisted.
