An outspoken mother compares her daughter’s stylish wedding dress to John Torvolta’s torches Say yes to the Lancashire dress – before adding the lace, she’ll get a ‘poochie belly’.
In tonight’s episode of the TLC show, fashion lover Kirsty wants to get rid of the traditional white dress in favor of pants on her wedding day, hoping to impress her followers on social media as much as her fiancé Joe.
However, her stubborn mother Helen is less than impressed when she first sees the unconventional outfit.
“She looked really classic and I thought ‘I like that’ until my eyes went down and I saw those pants,” she says. “I’m not so fond of those pants: they are flary, they remind me of the 70s, John Travolta.”
Helen continues. “Because there is so much lace on her stomach, she gets a bit of a poochie belly” – and Kirsty begins to agree.

At the beginning of the episode, Kirsty boldly explains, “I have a very strong vision: I want to wear pants.”
But mother Helen wants the opposite and sees her daughter walking down the aisle like a princess.
“I love the ball gowns because I’ve seen her in ball gowns,” she says. “I want to see her in a princess dress, but when she told me she wanted to wear pants, it just took me by surprise.”
With a budget of £ 3,500 to spend, Gok Wan is confident he can find something suitably stylish and dazzling for the bride-to-be to wear on her big day, while keeping Helen happy too.

The super stylist wants to bring Kirsty’s vision to life and chooses a gorgeous lace wedding dress with flared trousers that she can fit – but at first glance Kirsty isn’t convinced.
“A lot is happening with this jumpsuit,” she says. “I didn’t see myself in anything with a high neck and sleeves, and I don’t think it suits my body type.”
In keeping with Kirsty’s passion for customizing her clothes, Gok brings an overskirt to complete the outfit. She sees herself wearing the jumpsuit and the overskirt in the mirror and quickly comes over.
“Oh wow, I look so long!” she gasps. “I’m really surprised by the high neck, it’s really not as bad as I thought it would be.”
But for her entourage, Kirsty’s biggest fears are realized when her mom immediately has problems with the jumpsuit – saying it gives her a “poochie belly.”

Confused, Gok jokes, “What the hell is a pooch belly? There’s more fat on a chopstick, Helen! ‘
But after thinking about it, Kirsty chooses her mom and admits she feels like she has a ‘poochie belly’ in the jumpsuit.
Back above, Gok presents her a super refined dress with a deep neckline. But to give Kirsty that unique look she’s looking for, he has another trick up his sleeve.
“I have one of the prettiest dresses in this boutique, but I want us to tweak it together to create something that will be a one-off, one-of-a-kind fashion dress,” he says.
Gamble pulls out the scissors and makes the bold decision to cut a slit right along the skirt’s lining so Kirsty can reveal more of her legs.
“I literally tremble!” he says, holding the scissors, cutting the slit up to her thigh.

But once completed, Gok’s magical touch has the desired effect and Kirsty looks great.
“This is overwhelming,” beams the bride-to-be. “It’s incredible, I’m so happy. I am so confident my mom will like it because it is so different. ‘
Downstairs, Kirsty’s sister Bobo tells her exactly what she wants to hear and enthuses, “This is the prettiest dress I’ve ever seen you in.
But when she looks at her mother, Kirsty notices something is wrong.
“I’m not sure if that leg is hanging around like that,” Helen says finally. “I think it’s too high, she’s showing her underpants and everything!”
Subordinated again by her mom’s comments, Kirsty begins to lose hope of finding that signature look she’s desperately looking for.
Will Gok be able to turn the deal around and Kirsty find the dress of her dreams and win over Helen?
