A woman has been criticized online after showing off the outfit she lovingly made to wear to her stepdaughter’s wedding.
The DIY dress, which was inspired by a $2,500 Stella McCartney dress, was described as an embarrassment and a “complete train wreck” after screenshots were shared with a wedding shaming group on Facebook.
In her original post, the woman said she wanted something special to wear as the bride’s stepmother.
She found the Stella McCartney Rewild Flower dress on Pinterest and was inspired by the handmade crochet dress.
But he couldn’t afford it, so he made his own version.
“350 hours later and I was still trying to finish it, that explains the price,” he said.
She said she wanted to wear the dress again at her other stepdaughter’s wedding, but was thinking about dying it lime green and creating “spiderwebs” between the flowers.
‘Do you think this will be okay?’ she asked, adding that only the family would have seen the original dress.

While the people in the first post were supportive, praising her craftsmanship, and letting her know that the dress should definitely be worn again, the people in the wedding shaming group weren’t as kind.
‘It got worse as I scrolled down. The bra that shows under the mismatched dress. And it’s a bad copy of a dress that someone else made,” one woman said.
‘Does he hate his stepdaughter intentionally, or is he just out of touch?’ asked another.
She wants to wear the dress again for her other stepdaughter’s wedding in June.
A third added: “I think it would look better.” Burning.’
Others couldn’t believe how long it took to create the dress.
350 HOURS! That’s two and a half months into a full-time job. Lady, your time is worth more than that. People are crazy,’ said one.
And some couldn’t believe she would wear it to one wedding, much less dare to wear it to a second.
“Honestly, what does it for me is trying to re-dye it and pretend it’s new,” one woman laughed.
Another said it was a “terrible idea” with “good execution.”
People who crochet agreed that the stepmother is talented, as it would be a difficult creation to make.
The woman seemed confident in the dress and affectionately held her stepdaughter’s hand in the wedding photos.
Her husband posed proudly next to her in her handmade dress.
