It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, but just two days earlier, the blushing bride-to-be had been given the devastating diagnosis that she had terminal cancer.

Scarlett Thrustmore, 48, discovered she had stage four breast cancer just 48 hours before walking down the aisle, but decided to keep it from her guests.

“I rarely answer the phone and I did that day because I thought it was from the doctor and it must be something important,” recalled Scarlett, who lives in Vancouver, Washington.

‘I was devastated. I cried. You hear that term, ‘your life flashed before your eyes’ and it kind of happened,’ he admitted.

Scarlett managed to put on a brave face throughout the Star Wars-themed wedding on Saturday, May 4, and decided to keep the news from the wedding guests until a few days later.

She admitted that there were times when she “grieved,” however, overall, the fun of her big day served as a distraction from the terrible news, so she was able to enjoy the day and “just be a bride.”

‘There was so much love and joy in the room. I had no choice but to get caught up in it,” the newlywed gushed.

‘There were a few key people who already knew and they were wonderful and made sure I didn’t have to think about anything. She could just be a girlfriend.

‘It was a beautiful, chaotic and incredible day. It was so pretty, it was everything,’ she reflected.

‘Seeing how much everyone was there supporting us. “They were so excited that we were finally getting married,” he added.

‘Don’t fail yourself. I failed myself that way. I don’t want other women to fail themselves that way.

In the meantime, she’s making the most of her time with her new husband, who she says is devastated by her diagnosis.

“I’m the center of their universe and I’m not okay,” she said sadly. “We had plans to grow old together, wear matching suits, and be absolutely annoying to everyone around us. I have to survive just for that, if anything.

‘My life is beautiful, vibrant, full of so many wonderful things. “It’s absolutely worth fighting for,” he said.

She continued: ‘We balance each other very well. We are a very good team. “I couldn’t have picked a better guy.”
