An aggrieved mother has banned her partner from cutting their children’s hair – after giving their daughter a ‘horrible’ lockdown haircut that made her look like ‘Star Trek’s Spock’.
Marla Hayden, 25, of Sudbury, Suffolk, cried ‘angry tears’ when she discovered that partner Jordan Deane, 30, had used their kitchen scissors to trim little Holly’s beautiful blonde locks.
The toddler was left with skewed, bowl-shaped bangs just barely reaching her forehead and Holly, now three, had to tie her bangs to the side for her school photo.
Marla, mother of two, claims she was forced to put on a smile when the toddler happily showed her hair to people, but admits it took weeks to get over the ‘shock’ and ‘anger’ come.

Marla Hayden, 25, from Sudbury, Suffolk, cried ‘angry tears’ when she discovered a partner gave their daughter a ‘horrific’ lockdown haircut
“It’s 100 percent safe to say her dad can’t cut her hair anymore,” Marla said. “It looked terrible. It really was a big mess.’
“I was really upset and felt very angry that he had done it. It took me a few weeks to get over the shock.’
Marla had initially declined her partner’s offers to give their daughter’s hair a “cut” because it had become “overgrown” during the pandemic, but Jordan was confident in getting the hair cut.
He then chopped off two inches as he desperately tried to straighten the shaky bangs he’d given Holly, which took ten months to grow back.

Marla claimed her daughter looked like Spokc from Star Trek (pictured) because of her short bangs
“I was with my mom at the time and he took it upon himself to cut it. He didn’t tell me until he picked me up,” Marla said.
“I got in the car and Holly was in her car seat. She looks back and I looked in her mirror. I just saw her hair and I was really upset. I said, “What have you done?”.
“I cried angry silent tears in the car. I was terrified.
“I knew the school photo came up with her and her brother. It would have been their first with her when she was in the nursery at his school.
“It took me a few months to get to a decent height and I’ve only just been able to take her out for the past few weeks to get it right.”

Like many people, Holly’s hair was overgrown during the lockdown and Jordan was eager to keep it from dangling in front of her eyes.
‘It was lockdown, so all hairdressers were closed. Her bangs were very overgrown,” Marla said. “It was overgrown in her eyes and he took it upon himself to try and fix it… Obviously he didn’t do a very good job.
“He’d said it a few times before and said, ‘Let’s just give it a little bit’. I said no. Not only had he cut it very short, he also cut it very shaky. It was shorter on one side than the other.
“He said he was tired of her sitting in her eyes and that he would just go for it when I wasn’t there.

“He cut loads. He rose, I’d say, two inches or an inch and a half. He used kitchen scissors – blunt as anything. It’s basically the scissors I use to cut chicken.
“He didn’t think it would bounce. Since he had cut it when it was wet, it didn’t look good. He kept going and going.
“When it dried, it was the length you can see in the photo. That made her look really weird – like an alien. Like Star Trek.
“He knew he’d screwed up. He even said ‘let’s not think too much, it’s just her’. I know I made a mistake. I’m not going to do it again.” Bless him.’

The next day, Marla was forced to take Holly to the nursery and warn the staff about the grooming accident in advance.
Marla said, “When I took Holly to nursery the next day, I said, ‘Her dad cut her, it’s horrible. I put a clip in it and if it falls out, encourage her to keep it in.”

“Every time I picked her up, she always had her bangs down. I would have a clip with me to hide it.
‘She was very happy with it and said, ‘Daddy did my hair – do you like it?’ I was like ‘yes I really like it’ pretended to secretly think ‘what have you done?’
“She kept showing it to people and saying, ‘Look what daddy did’. I just had to pretend and say ‘yes, that’s great, isn’t it’.
“I thought ‘oh, it’s going to be the first picture of them together at the same school soon’, but luckily by the time the picture came it had grown just enough to put a clip in it.
“It didn’t look that bad then, but it still looked really bad.”
