A mother was charged after allegedly leaving her three children in a hot car while she went shopping for more than an hour on a 30C day.

The police were called after a witness reported Tuesday afternoon a nine-year-old boy and twin four-year-old boys in an SUV in the underground parking garage on Belmore Road in Riverwood in southwest Sydney.

The boys were reportedly left in the car for more than an hour before they were rescued, with the police looking in vain for the parents in a nearby shopping mall.

Dramatic footage captured the moment their mother was confronted with the police on her return to the vehicle.

“Why did you leave the children in the car?” said a policeman. ‘You have three children in the car on a 30C day!

‘It is ridiculous!’

The boys were taken out of the car and taken to Hurstville police station, where family and community services were informed.

They were not injured.

The 52-year-old mother was accused of leaving children unattended in a motor vehicle.

A statement from the NSW police media says that the police claim in court that the mother has parked the vehicle and has not returned to it for more than an hour.

She appears in the local court of Sutherland on April 14.
