A man has died after being rescued from the water near Rye Wharf on Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula

A young man has drowned after going for a swim on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

The 24-year-old drowned after entering the water from Rye Pier at around 2.45pm

Emergency services located him in the water at 3:15 p.m., but he died at the scene.

The police will prepare a report for the coroner.
