Super Size Me filmmaker Morgan Spurlock’s ex-wives, Sara Bernstein and Alex Jamieson, have paid tribute to him following his shocking death aged 53.
Spurlock died last Thursday, his family confirmed, from complications of cancer, which he had been privately battling.
She had finalized her divorce from Bernstein shortly before his death and three years after her filing in March 2021. The former couple married in 2016 and share an eight-year-old son, Kallen.
On Sunday, Bernstein thanked the public for their “love and support” and called Spurlock the “best dad ever.”
She included a sweet photo of Spurlock holding Kallen, who was then a baby, while also hugging Laken, her and Jamieson’s son, now 17.

‘Thank you for all the love and support over the last few days. “We appreciate him very much,” Bernstein began. “As Kallen told me, ‘Morgan was the best dad ever and we will love and miss him forever and ever.'”
He then encouraged those who “want to honor Morgan” to donate to Hope Lodge NYC, a nonprofit that provides free housing to cancer patients.
“Much love to all of you,” Bernstein concluded.
That same day, Spurlock’s ex-wife, Alex Jamieson, to whom he was married from 2006 to 2011, shared a touching tribute on Instagram.
‘Oh God… it is impossible to express in words what you meant to your family, to your children, friends, film community… to me. “I’m so glad we were friends in the end,” she began.
‘Morgan was a generous, creative and dedicated human being. He loved his friends and his children. When he got into something, he threw himself into it first with his heart, with his body and soul.
She continued: ‘Morgan loved to dance. And laugh. And tell stories. And encourage others too… Morgan PRESENTED FOR THE PEOPLE.
Jamieson then provided insight into their post-divorce relationship and how Spurlock has supported her over the years.

‘Even when we didn’t get along, we would get together to celebrate and laugh at our amazing boy and how he was growing up to be kind, funny and creative.

Along with her thoughtful words, the mother of one shared a montage of images that included throwback photos of Spurlock with her son, celebrities, as well as photos of him and Jamieson on the Super Size Me promotional tour in the early 2000s.
Spurlock’s family announced his death Friday in a statement.
They did not specify what type of cancer he was fighting or when he was diagnosed. He had been receiving chemotherapy prior to his death.
Spurlock earned an Oscar nomination for his groundbreaking 2004 documentary Super Size Me. He ate McDonald’s for 30 days to test what the effects would be on his body.
The result was shocking; He gained 24 pounds and his liver swelled.
The film grossed $20 million worldwide and started a fresh food revolution in the fast food industry.

Spurlock was universally praised for his groundbreaking documentary that highlighted how unhealthy fast food is.
Spurlock was skeptical about how many real changes had actually been made when asked about the issue in 2019.
“There’s been a massive shift and people ask me, ‘So food has gotten healthier?’ And I say, ‘Well, marketing has,’ she said.
“It was a sad day as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan,” Craig Spurlock, who worked with him on several projects, said in the statement.
‘Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas and generosity. The world has lost a true creative genius and a special man.
“I am very proud to have worked alongside him.”
Spurlock also directed the 2013 One Direction concert and documentary One Direction: This Is Us.
The West Virginia native produced nearly 70 documentaries through his production company Warrior Poet.
The follow-up film to Super Size Me, ‘Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!’ was removed from the 2017 Sundance Film Festival after Spurlock admitted to sexual misconduct.
Spurlock said he was accused of rape while in college, settled a sexual harassment case with an assistant in his office and was unfaithful to all of his wives and girlfriends.
“Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas and generosity,” his brother, Craig Spurlock, said in a statement to ABC News.
His physical and mental health declined rapidly and he gained 24.5 pounds by the end of the experiment.
“For me, there was a moment where I realized, as someone who tells the truth and someone who has made an effort to try to do the right thing, to recognize that I could do better in my own life. “We should be able to admit that we were wrong,” he told the AP.
Spurlock immediately resigned from Warrior Poets, the production company he co-founded.

Spurlock was a gonzo filmmaker who leaned toward the strange and ridiculous. His stylistic touches included fast graphics and fun music, combining a Michael Moore-style in-your-face camera style with his own sense of humor and pathos.
Since exposing the fast food and chicken industries, there has been an explosion in restaurants emphasizing freshness, artisanal methods, farm-to-table goodness, and ethically sourced ingredients. But nutritionally it hasn’t changed much.

The filmmaker is survived by two children, his parents and his ex-wives Alexandra Jamieson and Sara Bernstein.
