More than 40 people found dead inside tractor-trailor in Texas, say officials

At least 40 people were found dead Monday in a tractor-trailer in San Antonio, Texas, according to a law enforcement officer briefed on the case.

San Antonio’s KSAT television reported 42 deaths in the truck, citing unidentified San Antonio police sources.

The truck was found next to the tracks in a remote area on the southern edge of the city, KSAT reported.

The San Antonio Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. photos posted on Twitter by a KSAT reporter showed police vehicles and ambulances around a large truck.

Temperatures in San Antonio, about 250 km from the Mexican border, rose to 39.4 degrees Celsius on Monday with high humidity.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said the Mexican consul was on his way to the site.

Ebrard said in a tweet that the nationalities of the victims were still unknown.

The Mexican Consulate General in San Antonio said on Twitter it would help all Mexicans involved in the incident, if there were any. It also said Consul General Ruben Minutti was on his way to the crime scene.
