More than 1,000 employees at Carluccio’s were fired after the Italian restaurant chain was bought out of the records
More than 1,000 employees at Carluccio’s were made redundant after the Italian restaurant chain was purchased from the administration.
It has been rescued by the owner of Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG), Giraffe and Ed’s Easy Diner, which is controlled by ‘chicken king’ Ranjit Boparan.
But only 800 staff from 30 restaurants keep their jobs, as the administrators were unable to find a buyer for the remaining 40.
Dismissal: Carluccios plunged into administration in March after coronavirus exacerbated long-standing financial problems
Carluccios plunged into administration in March after the coronavirus worsened its longstanding financial troubles.
It was previously owned by the Dubai-based Landmark Group, which bought the company for £ 90 million in 2010.
Satnam Leihal, general manager of BRG, said: “We welcome Carluccio’s colleagues at BRG.
“We believe that the quality of catering companies will recover in the long term when people go out to eat again.”
