Bad news for Borussia Dortmund: There are again rumors of a change about BVB keeper Gregor Kobel, who is also traded at Bayern Munich.
As the London “Evening Standard” reports, there is contact between Chelsea from the English Premier League and Kobel’s management.
Accordingly, the Swiss is one of four goalkeepers on the Blues shortlist, alongside André Onana (Inter Milan), David Raya (FC Brentford) and Giorgi Mamardashvili (FC Valencia).
Chelsea’s new owners are said to be unhappy with the existing staff between the posts, Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Kepa is said to be on the club’s sell list next summer because of his exorbitant salary.
Most recently, “Sport1” also reported on a meeting between the Kobel side and Chelsea as part of the Champions League duels with BVB. The “Blick” also brought Manchester United into the conversation as interested parties in the 25-year-old goalkeeper.
Kobel has also been traded several times at FC Bayern for the post-Manuel Neuer era.
Will BVB have 40 to 50 million euros?
In the event of a Kobel change, BVB is said to have a transfer fee of between 40 and 50 million euros. It is also clear that the black and yellow have the upper hand with their top performers: Kobel’s contract runs until 2026 and is said to contain no exit clause.
Kobel himself is left cold by the ongoing speculation about his future. “I don’t deal with rumors – that doesn’t do me any good. I have to concentrate on the current situation here,” he said recently in a “Sky” interview.
BVB signed Kobel in 2021 for 15 million euros from VfB Stuttgart. He hit Dortmund straight away and closed the long-standing construction site in the goalkeeper position. In total, Kobel has now played 69 competitive games in a BVB jersey. He kept 23 clean sheets.
