A truck driver has been charged with alleged drug possession after his vehicle caused extensive damage as it crossed a major city intersection before coming to rest in the rubble of a school building.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Nuwarra and Newbridge roads in Moorebank, south-west of Sydney, about 1.15pm on Saturday.
The truck and trailer, which was loaded with dirt, struck 19 vehicles before continuing down the trail and into the parking lot of a church and an elementary school.
New South Wales Police confirmed the truck continued across the field and only stopped when it crashed into a classroom.
The 21-year-old driver was trapped inside his cab for almost 40 minutes before he was freed by Fire and Rescue NSW officers.
He was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he remains after receiving treatment for minor injuries to his face and hands.
NSW Police have since charged the man with a Field Court Assistance Notice (FCAN) for alleged possession of illegal drugs.
Police will allege that officers found methamphetamine and an ice pipe inside the truck’s cab after the crash.

The man’s license was also immediately suspended.
He will also undergo mandatory testing, and police confirmed further charges could be laid once the results are received.
Meanwhile, two other people were also taken to hospital following the incident.
A 33-year-old man was discharged on Sunday after being treated for soft tissue injuries, while his wife remains in hospital under observation as a precaution.
The truck will also undergo a mechanical inspection while the building is checked for structural damage.
Photos from the scene show a smashed window at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Moorebank, with a large white truck lying in the rubble.
Paramedics checked six other people at the scene as a precaution.
