This is the moment a farmer was left baffled by his herd of cows after five decided to come in from the cold and curl up on his sofa.

Michael Andrew was returning after a long day in the fields when he saw an unexpected surprise through the window.

The 19-year-old was hoping to relax in his living room playing some Xbox when he noticed a light inside.

The farmer appears in shock as he begins to record the debacle, with cows visible inside.

And it looks like chaos has already started to unfold with one brown cow taking a nap on the leather couch while the others rest their heads on the couch or kitchen counter, depending on their height.

There is mud and debris everywhere with objects, including weights, scattered all over the floor.

The cattle appear surprisingly composed, perhaps acting calmly to hide their guilt, as their owner opens the glass door.

Michael repeats the words “My God” as he accepts the bovine chaos.

Meanwhile, a cunning cow hides behind her companions in a futile attempt to get her way.

According to the farmer, the cows managed to get inside, close the door behind them and turn on a light inside the room.

Cattle are sometimes housed indoors when it’s hot or rainy outside, and some studies suggest that about one in five cows in the country are kept out of the elements in spring.

In 2021, a Nature study suggested there were “psychological benefits” to allowing cows access to open pastures.

The cattle brought mud and spread it generously around the place, in addition to knocking down a staircase.

As the camera pans, the extent of the damage becomes clear with objects thrown everywhere.

Although livestock are sometimes housed indoors in hot or humid climates, few farmers make the decision to bring them into their own homes. Michael said they must have broken in (pictured: cows in Michael's herd in an indoor shed)

Michael’s pack disagreed and apparently wanted a change from the wild world outside.

As the camera pans around the ransacked room, the extent of the damage becomes clear with a ladder lying on the floor and a teapot thrown onto the counter.

The video ends with Michael making the sarcastic comment: “I love cows.”
