Inter Miami suffered a late collapse at home to Monterrey on Wednesday night when a sensational goal from Jorge Rodríguez allowed the visitors to claim a 2-1 victory in the first leg of their Champions Cup quarter-final.
Miami took the lead that night through Tomás Avilés and looked like a good bet to maintain their lead, only for youngster David Ruiz to be sent off with 25 minutes left for a slap on Monterrey’s Maximiliano Meza.
After their moment of madness, the Mexican team grabbed the equalizer first through Meza moments later, and then sealed the victory when Rodríguez fired in a stunning late goal as fellow Argentinian Lionel Messi looked on.
