Australian singer Montaigne reveals that she will perform ‘remotely’ at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, because she cannot travel to the Netherlands due to the coronavirus pandemic

She will represent Australia in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, but Montaigne has revealed she won’t be there in person.

In a message on Instagram on Tuesday, the 25-year-old singer announced that she cannot travel to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where the competition will be held next month.

Montaigne – real name Jessica Alyssa Cerro – explained that the coronavirus pandemic had made travel from Australia to Europe nearly impossible, but said she would act remotely instead.

‘I am sorry to inform you all that I am not going to Rotterdam for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. I will still participate remotely. We are sending my performance of Technicolor from Australia, ”she wrote.

‘I am sorry I did not get the chance to perform on the big stage, but I am grateful to have been able to wear Eurovision for two years in a row, during a pandemic, which is really a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Montaigne also shared a video she recorded for SBS where she spoke to Eurovision organizers about not being able to attend.

‘Actually, I’m still participating in Eurovision this year. I’m just going to do it here in Australia instead of Rotterdam, because you know … ‘she explained.

Montaigne was scheduled to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest last year, but the event was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Although this year’s concert is scheduled to take place, Montaigne thought the current situation was too risky to travel abroad.
