This is the moment the landing gear of a US military plane failed during an emergency landing in Colombia.

A video shot by a bystander captured the Beechcraft C-12C Huron landing on the runway at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota on Thursday afternoon when the plane suffered a mechanical failure.

Video footage shows the US Air Force plane slowing down on the runway as its landing gear abruptly collapsed.

The pilot managed to control the aircraft and bring it to a safe stop in the middle of the runway.

A fire truck and firefighters could be seen following the plane and extinguishing the fire to prevent the fuel from causing a fire.

The aircraft remained on the ground for nearly five hours, preventing the airport from allowing planes to take off and land from the runway located at the northern end.

Video footage released by Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics Authority shows how special inflated devices were placed under the wings of both planes.

A separate video showed a crane lifting the plane off the ground.

A similar incident occurred in April 2018 when a Beechcraft C-12C Huron belonging to the US Embassy requested an emergency landing in Colombia.

The aircraft departed from Antonio Nariño Airport in Pasto, Nariño and was heading to El Caraño Airport in Quibdó, Chocó when the pilot reported problems with the landing gear.

The plane was diverted to La Florida airport in Tumaco, Nariño, 1,100 kilometers southwest of Bogotá. No injuries were reported.

The State Department told the Daily Mail that “a Beechcraft C-12 belonging to the Department of Defense Office of the U.S. Embassy experienced a mechanical failure” that forced it to make an emergency landing at El Dorado Airport.

“While the pilot safely recovered the aircraft, the incident required a brief runway closure. There were no injuries to the flight crew or ground personnel,” the department said in a statement.
