Moment cruel owner beat his pet cat as it desperately tried to escape

Excavated CCTV footage has revealed the shocking moment a man was caught attacking his own cat and mercilessly punching it six times.

Artur Zakowicz, 46, can be seen violently grabbing his black and white pet, Bashik, by his skin and pulling him upwards while punching him before flattening him on the ground.

During the attack – captured outside his home in Chester, Cheshire – the cat can be seen frantically trying to wriggle free from its owner’s clutches.

After 34 seconds of fighting, Bashik finally manages to escape and run away.

Commenting on the attack, a vet said the cat would no doubt have been left in pain after being hit so many times.

Cheshire Police and the RSPCA tracked down Zakowicz after viewing CCTV.

Zakowicz, who was summoned to Chester Magistrates’ Court, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a cat under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

He was banned from keeping animals for five years at his sentencing.

An RSPCA spokesman said: ‘Artur Zakowicz was caught on CCTV taken on March 24 committing the cowardly act in Charles Street close to the defendant’s home.

‘The footage showed him grabbing the black and white cat that belonged to him by the skin.

‘And he struck him violently six times with his hand, pushing the feline to the ground.

‘He then roughly picked up the cat, called Bashik, by the skin on its back before the cat managed to escape.’

The spokesman added: ‘Zakowicz was traced and the RSPCA and Cheshire Police attended his property on April 16.

‘When Bashik was examined later that day at the RSPCA Greater Manchester Animal Hospital, there were no visible injuries from the attack.

“However, a vet said any soft tissue injury may have healed in the time between the incident and the doctor.

‘In a written statement submitted to the court, RSPCA Inspector Naomi Morris said she was shown CCTV footage of the attack at Blacon Police Station.

‘And went with a police officer to Zakowicz’s flat where he admitted the attack and gave the RSPCA permission to take the animal for a vet check.’

The vet’s expert report stated: ‘Persistent evidence of bruising and soft tissue swelling would not be expected when the examination was carried out 23 days after the CCTV incident.

‘No skeletal damage could be detected radiographically.’

The animal charity’s spokesman continued: ‘However, after seeing the attack, the vet concluded that Bashik would have been in ‘pain for a period of several hours, possibly longer’.
