Moment California Man Stunned After Bear Walks into His Kitchen While Washing Dishes

A California man was stunned after a bear walked into his kitchen while he was washing dishes.

Jason Wightman of Sierra Madre didn’t know how to react when the 300-pound animal burst through an open door and into his home at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Shared a nail-biter five minute long video from the interaction to Facebook, where it accumulated more than 2,000 visits.

Along with a surprised emoji, she wrote: “I was washing the dishes and I looked and well, this happened.”

In the clip, the animal cautiously peeks its head around the corner and looks at the owner of the house, before approaching.

Jason Wightman of Sierra Madre didn’t know how to react when the 300-pound animal burst through an open door and into his home at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

‘Hey, are you nice?’ Jason asks nervously, ‘You’re in my house, get out of my house.’

He continued: ‘Mr. Bear, I’m warning you: get out of my house. Bear, bear, bear, be nice. You’re licking your lips.

When trying, unsuccessfully, to get the animal to leave his house, he asked the bear: ‘Do you want me to spray you with water?’

Wightman continued to spray the bear as it attempted to approach again, but it backed away and ran away.

Following him, he realized that there were actually two who were now in his garden.

‘Alright, who else do you have here? Is it just you two? I see you around,’ she said as he filmed them.

‘I’m not going to hurt them, I just want them to keep going. Wow how you came out. Come on, I don’t have anything for you here,’ he added, while he continued talking to the animals.

Seemingly irritated, one of the bears begins walking quickly toward the California resident, who quickly backs away and runs back to his house.

The bears clearly didn’t want to leave, even when the man opened a door for them and continued making noises to scare them away. However, they eventually jumped a fence and left the property.

speaking to CBS News Of the incident, Wightman said: “I don’t even remember what I was saying.” It was happening very fast. There was a bear in my kitchen.

According to the outlet, Sierra Madre recorded more than 370 bear sightings last year alone, and 70 of the animals entered people’s homes.

Now, in the middle of this year, more than 100 have already been seen, three inside houses, according to deputy municipal director Laura Aguilar.

The video comes just as it is confirmed that a 71-year-old California woman who was mysteriously found dead in her home was mauled to death by a black bear, in the first fatal attack of its kind.

Patrice Miller was found dead last November in her home in Downieville, a small town in the Sierra Nevada, two hours northeast of the state capital, Sacramento.

Sierra County sheriff’s deputies were checking on the welfare of a resident who had not been seen for a few days when they found a broken door and bear droppings on the porch.

Officers forced entry into the home and discovered his body inside, noting that the home had been ransacked, with signs leading them to believe a bear had entered the property.

“It looked like the bear had probably been there for several days and had been feeding on the remains,” Sheriff Mike Fisher told KCRA.

It was initially believed that Miller died before the bear arrived and that he may have been attracted by the smell.

Meanwhile, there were many reports from concerned citizens about a bear repeatedly returning to the house. According to Fisher, a state depredation permit was issued and a bear was trapped on the property and euthanized.

An autopsy later revealed that Miller died “due to a bear attack or a hit and bite to the neck area.”

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed it was the first record of a fatal black bear attack on a human in the state.
