As the traumatized pug’s screams grow louder, a woman from a nearby pharmacy appears with a chair and attempts to slam it between the two dogs in an attempt to free the injured canine.

While other members of the group help fight the beast with a chair, another woman tries to kick it until she finally frees the pug.

In the video a woman can be heard saying: ‘Is that a dog? “That’s fucking scary.”

Police Scotland said they were aware of the attack, but the dog has not been captured.

They were unable to confirm the breed of the dog but it is understood that it is not an XL Bully.

However, XL Bully campaign group Bully Watch condemned the attack by the “XL Bully type dog” and claimed the owner had “no control over him”.

Shocked onlookers reacted angrily to the attack, with one writing: “These dogs should not be owned by the public.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 1.15pm on Monday 3 June, 2024 officers were made aware that a dog had bitten another dog in the Newkirkgate area of ​​Edinburgh.

‘There were no reports of anyone being injured during the incident.

“The owners of both dogs were located and the corresponding information was given to them.”
