An interior stylist has shared photos of her spectacular backyard transformation after turning an old pergola into a beautiful outdoor sunlit theater space.

Emma, from Melbourne, said the renovation took just four weeks after she and her husband created a warm and welcoming space for their family to enjoy.

The couple built a wall of windows overlooking their yard, painted over the drab brown masonry, installed insulation, heating and cooling, and added laminate flooring.

“My husband really wanted to turn this space into an ‘outdoor room during the day and a theater room at night,'” the mother of two wrote on social media.

“We’ve never used this pergola space and my husband really wanted to close it so we can get more use out of it.”

Over the following month, the couple brought their dream space to life.

‘We closed off the whole space, but still kept it light and bright by adding lots of windows,’ Emma – who shares her stunning interior styling on Instagram – said.

“My husband did the wood frames for the wall – we used HardiePlank weatherboard for the outside and plaster inside.

“We painted the whole room with a Dulux paint called builder’s white… sealed the ceilings with plaster and added insulation and heating and cooling.

‘Insulation and good heating was a must, because I am always very cold. We installed a split system, a large system in the right corner of the wall, it makes the room warmer than inside and we put insulation throughout the ceilings.

“My husband laid the floor—the floors were concrete, then subfloor, then laminate floors.”

The renovations weren’t cheap, though, with Emma saying they spent about $30,000 renovating the 55-square-foot space.

Emma said her husband was “super excited” after they set up his projector in the outdoor area.

“It’s so obvious that the screen quality is 4K quality like a TV. It is a Samsung brand and you simply place it on a TV cabinet nearby. You don’t have to do anything else. And it’s visibly bright during the day, too,” she said.

After renovating their backyard, the mother created a luxurious Hamptons-style space with beautiful sofa lounges, rugs, plants and an array of modern home accessories.

Her post has since been ‘liked’ over 1,400 times, with hundreds saying it’s one of the most ‘beautiful’ pergola transformations they’ve ever seen.

‘This has a lot of wow factor! Beautiful room transformation,” one wrote, while another said, “Oh my, this is the most dreamy transformation ever.”

And someone added, ‘Oh my god…this is the best open air theater ever! Brilliant makeover.’
