A mother in California was arrested Thursday, nearly two years after the tragic death of her five-year-old son, who was found dead inside a novelty suitcase in the woods of Indiana.

Dejaune Anderson was arrested in Arcadia, a suburb outside Los Angeles, on several charges, including murder in connection with the death of Cairo Jordan, the court announced. Indiana State Police on Friday.

At the end of 2022, The authorities discovered Cairo. body inside a “distinctive Las Vegas-themed hardside suitcase” in southern Indiana. Despite the discovery in April, several months passed before investigators were able to identify the body or any suspects connected to the Cairo disappearance.

During this period, no family member, witness or acquaintance came forward to provide information about Cairo’s identity or the circumstances surrounding his death. Despite the efforts of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and tips from the public, leads remained elusive.

An autopsy revealed that Cairo had died just days before his body was discovered, succumbing to dehydration induced by vomiting and diarrhea.

Although Anderson had been identified as a suspect, she remained at large and her whereabouts were unknown. However, Dawn Elaine Coleman, who had resided with Cairo and her mother, was arrested for her involvement in the case.

According to details from an arrest affidavit referenced by the Georgia news station. 11AliveColeman had found Anderson lying on top of Cairo, who was face down. Anderson had allegedly enlisted Coleman’s help to place his child in a trash bag and then a suitcase before driving into the woods in Indiana.

Before Cairo’s tragic disappearance, Anderson had posted on social media that her son was allegedly possessed by demons, as reported by 11Alive.

Following the identification of Cairo’s body, his father expressed his deep sorrow and stated that words could not adequately convey the pain he was suffering. Despite residing in Georgia, Cairo’s father acknowledged the overwhelming support he received from the Indiana community, which considered Cairo to be part of his own family.

Anderson remained evasive until Indiana authorities received critical information from a concerned citizen, leading to her arrest while attempting to board a train. In addition to the murder charge, Anderson faces allegations of neglect of a dependent resulting in death and obstruction of justice. The timeline for her extradition to Indiana is still unclear.
