The California mother who is suspected of murdering her three children in Reseda on Saturday pleaded not guilty to charges of carjacking a truck on the day of their murder during her alleged escape on Wednesday.
Liliana Carrillo, 30, appeared in a Kern County Superior Court in a blue prison uniform with a plaster cast on her left arm for a hearing that lasted less than a minute. KFSN-TV reported.
She entered pleas on four charges: two of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, one of carjacking, and one of attempted carjacking. Her bail is set at $ 2 million and she will appear in court there again on May 7.
Carrillo’s three children were found dead by their maternal grandmother on Saturday in her apartment in the Reseda neighborhood of Los Angeles. She was arrested later that day in Tulare County, nearly 200 miles north of the crime scene.

Assistant district attorney Joseph Kinzel speaks at press conference after Liliana Carrilo’s arraignment in Kern County Superior Court
Kern County prosecutors alleged that Carrillo crashed her car on Highway 65 near Bakersfield and then crashed into a truck belonging to someone who stopped to help her.
“Rather than accepting that help, the charges are that she took their car,” said Kern County’s assistant district attorney Joseph Kinzel, according to KFSN-TV.
She then tried to steal another truck before being arrested Saturday afternoon in the San Joaquin County community in Ponderosa, near Porterville, where Carrillo and her family lived until Feb. 25, according to the court.
Officials said Carrillo is suspected of murdering Joanna Denton Carrillo, 3; Terry Carrillo, 2; and 6 month old Sierra.
Carrillo has not been charged with criminal charges for their deaths pending an ongoing investigation. Autopsies are pending to determine the cause of death for the children.
Los Angeles Police Department told KABC-TV that its detectives will investigate the alleged murder case and seek extradition to Los Angeles County.
“Los Angeles police are investigating the possible murder case in Los Angeles,” Kinzel said.
‘That investigation is not complete. While liaising with the Los Angeles Police Department to make sure we understand what’s going on as it interacts with the allegations here. ‘
He added, “We don’t have a full investigation at this point, so I’m not going to speak on their behalf.”
Police have not disclosed a motive for the murders. But court documents showed there was a bitter custody dispute between Carrillo and the children’s father, Erik Denton, her ex-boyfriend.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the murders. But lawsuits showed there was a bitter custody dispute between Carrillo, in the photo, and the children’s father.
The children were staying with Carrillo, but Denton filed a petition with a custody court on March 1, fearing for the safety of the children.
He claimed Carrillo was delusional and took the kids and refused to tell him where they were. Carrillo, in turn, filed a restraining order against him, claiming that Denton was an alcoholic who may have sexually assaulted their oldest child.
Denton’s lawsuits allege that Carrillo suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of their middle child and that she started therapy but stopped.
Instead, Carrillo would have self-medicated with marijuana, he claimed. In texts and social media posts, she had reportedly said things like ‘I wish I never had children’ and threatened to kill herself.

Carrillo also believed she was “ solely responsible ” for the coronavirus pandemic, Denton wrote, thinking Porterville was home to a “ giant sex trafficking ring. ”
She sought a restraining order in Los Angeles County. Through the court, Denton and Carrillo agreed to swap Denton’s days to see the children – for a few hours every other Sunday.
Last Sunday, according to the new schedule, would be his second visit to the children.
